Scandal: The Trial of Mary Astor
Premiering at the 2018 TCM Film Festival, Scandal: The Trial of Mary Astor explores the headline-making 1936 child custody trial of movie goddess Mary Astor and the fall-out from the release of her private diaries detailing her passionate affair with a legendary Broadway writer and wit.
As the first solo project of film scholar Alexa L. Foreman, it represents two years of research, interviews and writing by Foreman, who had been encouraged by trusted colleague and friend, the late Robert Osborne. The celebrated TCM host urged Foreman to use her vast knowledge and experience to tell her own stories. She dedicated Scandal to his memory.
Following its festival debut, the film found a home on TCM in 2018. Additionally, Foreman makes it available to film programs for study and discussion. She is currently researching her next film project on another fascinating moment in Hollywood movie history.
